At the National Maritime Museum of China, the Exhibition Hall of the Age of Dinosaurs is undoubtedly one of the most eye-catching and popular spaces. With a theme of the ocean being the cradle of life, this exhibition hall vividly presents the world of reptiles in the Mesozoic Era – which spanned from 250 million years ago to 66 million years ago – through a rich variety of exhibits.

When you enter the exhibition hall and turn right, you will see the 11-meter-long Guanling ichthyosaur fossil hanging on the wall. It is the largest ichthyosaur fossil in China. Ichthyosaurs were highly specialized large marine reptiles. They had streamlined bodies and paddle-like limbs, and their appearance was similar to that of fish and dolphins. These morphological features indicate that ichthyosaurs had fully adapted to life in the ocean.

In the center of the exhibition platform stands a restored model of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, which is 10 meters in length. The Tyrannosaurus rex lived in the late Cretaceous period. It is one of the most famous dinosaurs in the world and one of the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs in the world.

The Exhibition Hall of the Age of Dinosaurs of the National Maritime Museum not only opens a window for visitors to understand the mysteries of the ancient ocean, but also, with its unique display content, guides people to think about the important role of the ocean in the origin and development of life. It inspires people to actively practice the concept of a maritime community with a shared future in reality and jointly protect the blue homeland of humanity.
